Installing a WordPress Theme

There are main ways to install your WordPress themes.(WordPress Dashboard, Cpanel/File Manager or FTP)

WordPress Dashboard:

  • Login to your WordPress dashboard
  • Select the Appearance panel, then Themes.
  • Select Add New.

Download a theme from the websites like themeforest.net onto your local computer. If you did not download the theme after purchase then you will want to log into ThemeForest and go to your “downloads” and download the “Installable WordPress file only” zip file as shown in the screenshot below.

Then go to Appearance > Themes, upload a zipped copy of a Theme via the WordPress Dashboard.  Once uploaded, Click the “Install Now” button to install your theme and Click activate to activate it.

Add New > Upload Theme

Upload Themes > Choose file and upload the Zip file > Install Now

 

Manual Installation ( Cpanel & FTP):

If the WordPress theme installs from dashboard experiences some error, it is possible to manually install a theme by uploading it directly to your server (theme directory).

For this method first Open File Manager in cPanel or connect to your server with an FTP client and browse to your folder located at wp-content/themes directory.

Uncompress the premium theme file you downloaded from ThemeForest and upload only the extracted folders to your server.
After successfully uploading the theme go to your WordPress dashboard, Select Appearance -> Themes left-hand side dashboard menu.Click the Activate button under the theme you uploaded.
